Hydro Group Plc completes Korean defence surveillance aerostat

Hydro Group has completed its first project within the South Korean defence market to provide fibre optic cable and termination systems for a surveillance aerostat.

Doug Whyte, Hydro Group CEO, is extremely excited by the company’s involvement in a highly innovative project in South Korea. He said: “Historically our key sectors are oil and gas, subsea defence, oceanography, renewable energies and driving. This project is the result of three years research and development between Hydro Group and the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and Shin Young industries.

“It’s currently undergoing trials which will last approximately three months and, if successful, will hope to build another 10 systems, making the contract value £400,000.

KARI’s principal researcher Mr Kim added: “Providing solutions to our specific needs has been the success of this project. Hydro Group has worked closely with us and Shin Young to design, develop and test the aerostat cable, which has an operational height of 4,000 feet. We are looking forward to working with their team on the next stage.”

Hydro Group Plc is a major national and international provider of harsh environmental solutions for electrical and optical systems, with a portfolio of customers including oil and gas majors, blue chip clients and the world’s largest defence organisations.
