In cable / connector manufacturing, encapsulation is a precision injection moulding process in which one elastomeric material is moulded onto a second material (metal connector), forming a powerful chemical bond able to withstand severe subsea conditions. The process of encapsulation is carried out after the connector has been terminated, and the resulting solid elastomeric (e.g. polyurethane) adhesion radically extends the life of the cable / connector assembly.
